On May 25, 2026, Chinese Consulate General in Erbil held a press briefing on the China-U.S. Summit and China-Russia Summit. Representatives from eight mainstream media outlets in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq attended. Deputy Consul General Zhang Jianxin briefed the media on the main points of the two summits.

Zhang Jianxin pointed out that the China-U.S relationship is the most important and complex bilateral relationship in the world. It is anchored by presidential engagement. During this China-U.S. summit, the most important political understanding is that the two presidents agreed on a new vision of building “a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability”. The two presidents’ in-depth discussions have produced fruitful outcomes and important consensuses. The Taiwan question is the most important issue between China and the U.S., China hopes that the U.S. side will take concrete actions to keep the bilateral relationship on an even keel and contribute to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

China-Russia relations have reached the highest level in history as a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, setting a model for a new type of major-country relationship. Looking to the future, as President Xi Jinping emphasized, China and Russia should build higherquality political mutual trust and give each other firm strategic support, empower higher-quality mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly advance development and revitalization for each other, promote higherquality peopletopeople connectivity and strengthen the foundation of lasting friendship between the two nations, pursue higher-quality international coordination to reform and improve global governance. 

Zhang Jianxin stated that, under the stewardship of presidential engagement, China remains committed to being a mainstay in maintaining international order and upholding fairness and justice, and a reliable partner in sharing development opportunities. China is willing to deepen friendly cooperation with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and create a bright future of common prosperity and mutual benefit.

Zhang also answered reporters' questions regarding cooperation between China and the KRI.
