On 25 October 2026, Acting Consul General Zhang Jianxin and H.E. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), attended the signing ceremony of the Jetour vehicle assembly plant project.

In his remarks, Acting CG Zhang said that Jetour, together with local partners, will build an assembly plant that enables Chinese-brand vehicles in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) to make the leap from “import and sales” to “localized operations.” This is a vivid illustration of the achievements of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two sides. China will continue to share development opportunities and outcomes with the KRI, for the benefit of both peoples.

H.E. Prime Minister Masrour thanked Chinese companies for their contributions to the KRI’s development, and said Jetour will become the first automobile brand to carry out local assembly and production in the KRI. The project will boost the KRI’s automobile industry and create more jobs, and carries great significance for the region’s industrialization and economic diversification.

H.E. Prime Minister Masrour also took test rides in several Chinese-brand vehicles on site. He spoke highly of the achievements of China’s manufacturing and high-tech industries, and expressed great expectations for future cooperation.
